If you are only interested in monitoring your credit report and score based on information from one credit bureau, myFICO may work for you. Unfortunately, they do not offer a comprehensive service that monitors all three bureaus.
As an extra service, myFICO hosts user moderated forums where people can talk about credit and personal financial experiences with other members. They also offer articles and other educational information that help you understand your FICO score and credit calculators to help estimate mortgage payments or the effects of refinancing based on your current FICO score.
Products from myFICO include Score Watch®, Suze Orman’s FICO® Kit Platinum, FICO® Standard and FICO® Quarterly Monitoring.
Score Watch keeps track of changes to your Equifax credit report and score. Your report is monitored for new accounts, inquiries or credit applications, increases in account balances, account status changes, public records, and names, addresses and phone number associated with your report. If any of this information changes you will receive an email or text message alert. This service costs $8.95 per month (3 month minimum), or $89.95 annually, and comes with a 30-day free trial.
Remember, you have three credit reports. Score Watch only monitors one of them.
Suze Orman’s FICO® Kit Platinum costs $49.95 and includes 3 personalized credit reports and 3 FICO® scores from your choice of Equifax or TransUnion. This product comes with several other features like Debt Eliminator, which will help coach you through eliminating debt, bill pay reminders, and a FICO® simulator to show you how paying off certain debts (or acquiring new ones) affects your FICO® score.
If you find discrepancies on your credit report, myFICO can’t actually file a dispute, but they will help you draft a letter to each of the three major credit bureaus to get the investigation underway.
One good thing about this product is that the $49.95 you pay up front is actually an annual fee, which means this only costs a little over $4 per month, which is way cheaper than most credit monitoring services. The bad side of this is that it doesn’t actually monitor your credit report, and only lets you have a report from one credit bureau.
FICO® Standard is basically just a quick snapshot of your credit score from your choice of either Equifax or TransUnion and costs $15.95.
FICO® Quarterly Monitoring is the actual credit monitoring service provided by myFICO®. This service tracks your TransUnion credit report and score and notifies you of any changes. It costs $4.95 per month, or $49.95 annually.
The FICO® Quarterly Monitoring service includes a $25,000, no-deductible, identity theft insurance policy through St. Paul Travelers. Besides this coverage myFICO doesn’t offer identity theft prevention services.
There are no business solutions offered by myFICO.
You may reach myFICO support via telephone or email. Instead of providing a FAQ section, they offer user moderated forums where you can communicate with other consumers.
myFICO offers some pretty cool products if you only need to check on one of your credit reports. To find out about the more comprehensive credit report services on the market, take a look at FreeCreditReport.com, Experian and Equifax.
