Identity Guard® provides quarterly credit reports and scores from each of the three major credit bureaus. This is more helpful than the annual report offered by other companies because it allows you to keep a closer eye on your credit report and scores throughout the year.

Identity Guard doesn’t provide a credit freeze but it does monitor activity on your credit report daily rather than intermittently. They also don’t send fraud alerts via email like many of the other services in this category.

As an additional feature they offer a stolen wallet recovery service that is helpful if you ever lose your wallet. Simply call Identity Guard and they will help you notify credit card companies about the loss, as well as provide access to up to $2,000 in emergency cash.

If you need to dispute information on your credit report you will have to contact Experian, Equifax, or TransUnion. Identity Guard doesn’t have a service to assist in this process. They also don’t offer debt reduction services.

Identity Theft Prevention:  

Intersections, Inc., the parent company of Identity Guard, has been in business for 13 years and serves over 8 million subscribing customers. They meet all BBBOnline Participation and Better Business Bureau accreditation standards and their website is VeriSign Secured and cybertrust certified. This all demonstrates just how serious they are about protecting your personal information.

If you become a victim of identity theft, the helpful Recovery Assistants at Identity Guard can help you with the potentially messy cleanup process. They will assist you in contacting the appropriate authorities, credit card companies, and even the social security administration to report the incident.

They offer up to $1 million in identity theft insurance underwritten by National Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburgh, PA. This money is provided to help pay for the identity recovery process. Remember to review the terms and conditions associated with this policy and become familiar with coverage limitations.

Business Solutions:  

Identity Guard offers a few business solutions either independently or through its subsidiaries. These services include pre-employment background screening, corporate brand protection, and security breach remedies that help companies respond to security incidents and minimize damage to their employees, customers, and corporate brands.

Help/Support:  

Help is only a phone call away with Identity Guard. They do not offer 24/7 support but have longer hours than many competitors. You can also reach them by email.

There are several key features that differentiate Identity Guard® from the competition. Free internet security, quarterly credit reports, and a stolen wallet recovery service are all great extras. Some things we would like to see are fraud alerts and the option for family protection services.
